Sustainability at The Ruong
Sustainability doesn’t have to be a big deal at The Ruong. It can be as simple as planting a tree to help the community living around the Retreat understand the importance of living green and clean and cherish their long-standing traditional culture. We wish to keep the familiar images of farmers like buffaloes and plows forever. We give top priority to community development, improving the health of the people and the local economy, always preserving the area around The Ranch as old as it was many decades ago. Sustainable practices not only provide a better experience for The Ruong’s visitors but more importantly, to maintain the charm of this land.
The environment is where we meet, where everyone benefits, something we all share.
90% Of The Ruong Staff Are Locals
The 90% of the workforce is local, making The Ruong a close member of the local community with its distinctive language, sound, and culture. As long as they have a desire to develop themselves, we provide free training courses, development orientation, and recruitment for them to have the opportunity to work in their homeland, with good income.
Says “No” To Single-use Plastic Products
The Ruong firmly says “No” to single-use plastic products. We use glass water bottles instead of disposable plastic bottles; Use a porcelain jar containing shampoo and shower gel for easy refilling. Electric motors replace gasoline engines. Decorations made from environmentally friendly materials and honoring Vietnamese traditional crafts are prioritized. The walls are plastered with earth, the roof is thatched with palm leaves, and the glass windows extend the entire length of the room to take advantage of natural light and minimize electrical energy. We organize garbage collection and cleaning sessions to help people gradually change their thinking and get used to a cleaner living environment. We believe that big changes come from small actions.
Use Natural Products
The Ruong has no plastic materials. We do our best to replace plastic products with other environmentally friendly materials, although more difficult and expensive. The decorations in the room are made from porcelain, water hyacinth, brocade fabric, which is both friendly and close to Vietnamese culture. Shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, essential oils used in Lotus Spa are all of pure natural origin and are produced by Vietnamese suppliers with their own scent. At The Ruong, nature is the object. to be cherished, not to be hurt.
We Support Local Economy
The Ruong considers people as an important factor for sustainable tourism development. At The Ruong, we have fields for local people to farm for free. People grow their own rice and harvest their own crops and bring them home. Trekking tours of The Ruong all use local guides, bringing guests to the natural landscapes, meeting and chatting with people in the area. We both ensure sustainable activities, help guests understand more about the local culture, and support additional income for people.
